Today the first stork arrived in Vetschau.
Let's hope that this year will be more successful than last year.

A video from this afternoon

Back from dinner
He left the nest at 7.58 pm, I think, there was an alaert at the fire department next door,
I saw some car with blue light flashing driving along.
Maybe they scared him.
Unfortunately there is no sound.

A video
Arrival, mating and leaving the nest.

2 storks are in the nest now.
That looks promising.

Re: 2016
Hello Doris! I see no English speaking fans here this year. Have they given up on this nest, I wonder? Has there been any logical reasoning for the empty nest these past two years? So sad to see this. I pray 2017 will be a successful breeding year in Vetschau. The Raddusch nest is good to watch, but I really do miss the audio feed of clapping storks!

Hello Patrialice,
I think there are many reasons. This area, Brandenburg, looses more and more wetlands. Instead there is more intensive farming.
You find strawberry fields covered with plastic, asparagus fields, covered with plastic, and lot of former wet meadows are now used for corn and other energy plants. The storks do not find enough food.
And we have the clima change. This area is very dry now and there is not enough rain anymore. This is also a reason that the storks do not find enough food.
My fingers are also crossed for a breeding stork couple next year.
