:D Great to see 3 healthy young storks!! Now__ if they will listen and learn from their parents___

Doris___ do the parents recognize their own? Say___ if one comes back to visit the nest next year? Or would it be recognized as an intruder and a threat to them? Do they always return to the same area?

Thank you to all contributrrs. A real education!

Hi Luana,
great to see you. :-)
No, they would not recognize them as their children.
When our storklets would return to the nest in 2 or 3 years, they would be intruders.

Young storks do not return the next year. They stay for 2 or 3 years in the south.
Africa or spain, depending on their migrating route. The migrating route is genetically determined. The western route to Spain is the shorter route and this storks often return after 2 years and breed successful.
But I never have heard that they have returned to the nest they have hatched from.
I have learned from a Polish scientist that he has found out that females found a family about 200 km, 125 miles away and male storks about 50 km, 30 miles away from the nest they have hatched.
Don't know why, maybe it has to do with spreading the gen.

Good morning.
And back to the nest.

It will be very hot today, I am not sure, if they will fly a lot.
Maybe to the next meadow and look for a shady place.
Our storks here do this. ;-)
