Thank you, Doris and Regenstern, for the terrific updates on our beauties. I see they are strengthening wings now....soon they will make that arduous journey (God speed!).
I appreciate your English dialogue, as my German is only ein bisune (?!) Vielen Dank

Ringing in Vetschauer Stork Nest
On 20 June our two young storks were ringed. The experienced bander brought to the well-read rings on the legs of the still flightless young storks.
The appointment was made very quickly concluded, had as a cause of the chick size in other nests around Luckau, which were fitted with rings on the same day.
The ringing means for the animals is always a failure and is associated with stress. Therefore it is important to keep this as short as possible. While fleeing the arrival of the lift from the adult storks nest and the babies fall into a protective rigidity (akinesia). Once the danger has passed, the adult storks, and return the youngs need about 20 minutes. to return completely to be fit.
The young storks Vetschauer wear the band number (DEH) HU 826 and (DEH) HU 827. Our thanks go to the white stork counselor Mrs. Illig from Luckau that made the banding and enviaM who introduced us to the lift available.
Through the readings and dead found ringed birds over the years, extensive information on site fidelity, life, death and migration routes are gathered. For this priceless material directly necessary protective measures are derived.
